MANILA, Sept. 27, 2012—More than 300 youth ministers from the 86 dioceses and member-organizations of the Federation of the National Youth Organization (FNYO) in the country are set to gather in Legazpi City for the 2012 National Conference for Youth Ministers (NCYM).
Themed “Chosen by Christ, Living the Faith, and Fruitful in Mission”, the NCYM 2012 will focus on faith and mission in the youth ministry.
The five-day event that will run from October 1 to 5 is being organized by the CBCP’s Episcopal Commission on Youth (ECY).
ECY’s executive secretary Fr. Conegundo Garganta said the biennial event will be a venue for youth ministers to gather in fellowship, to update information and skills, and also a way for them to experience the community of being together as ministers ministering to the young.
Some of the highlights of the conference are a three-day plenary that will talk about being chosen by Christ, living the faith and being fruitful in the mission that will help deepen the theme of NCYM 2012.
Workshops will also be given during the five-day conference that will update the attendees on skills that will be beneficial to them in their ministry to the young.
Garganta pointed out that the NCYM is one way of opening up and sustaining inter-ministeriality of the youth ministry and of truly making it an ecclesial ministry. The conference is also for the young to see last year’s CBCP Year of the Youth in the eyes of the bigger Church and to envision the coming years in the light of ecclesial collaboration.
He added that there is a new flavor in NCYM 2012 which is the allotment of five slots for the dioceses and FNYO member-organizations.
“Aside from youth directors, coordinators and youth leaders, campus youth ministers and ministers from another diocesan ministry/commission which closely collaborates with the diocesan youth ministry will be participating in the conference. We hope that they too could join the youth minister’s conference,” Garganta furthered. (Jandel Posion)
