GUIGUINTO, Bulacan, April 24, 2016 – The Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) of the Diocese of Malolos under the Commission on Social Action (CSA) held on April 23 its general orientation in preparation for the upcoming elections on May 9, orienting volunteers on the entire voting process .

Explaining seven categories for PPCRV volunteers, Fr. Anthony C. Chan, PPCRV Malolos Diocesan Director said it is important for everyone in the PPCRV to know how the election system works so that everyone be vigilant about the electoral process from start to finish.

Representatives from the Commission on Elections – Province of Bulacan Office under Atty. Laarni Pangilinan explained the automated election system and how PCOS machines work, orienting some 500 volunteers from 31 parishes present on processes and procedures.

Special election sims

In his homily, Fr. Efren G. Basco, CSA Diocesan Chairman, said being a PPCRV volunteer is a “personal response” stemming from both one’s faith and from one’s concern for the nation, since it is a stand for both “the spiritual and the temporal responsibility of a person.”

The priest reminded the volunteers to remain non-partisan or unbiased and should choose the truth above all else in order to ensure the achievement of PPCRV’s goal of Clean, Honest, Accurate, Meaningful, and Peaceful Elections (CHAMP).

Basco said it is important to adhere to one’s principles in order to be “a true servant” of both God and country.

During the event, PPCRV also announced a tie-up with mobile network Talk and Text, which introduced special election edition sim cards, which will update volunteers on election-related matters until May 9.

KAPAYAPAAN

Held at the Immaculate Conception Major Seminary Gymnasium in Tabe in this province, the event was launched in line with the CSA’s call for KAPAYAPAAN (KAdalisayang PAglilingkod sa YApak ng PAnginoon at Ating mga Ninuno), the theme for all CSA election-related activities to advocate safe and peaceful elections.

The event’s highlight was a Holy Mass celebrated by Fr. Kent Andrew E. Apeña, Asst. Prefect of Discipline of the Seminary Theologate, Fr. Efren G. Basco, CSA Diocesan Chairman, and Fr. Jerome B. Robles, Parochial Vicar of St. Augustine Parish – Baliuag, Bulacan, whose PPCRV volunteers attended the event.

The Diocese of Malolos comprises the province of Bulacan and the city of Valenzuela, Metropolitan Manila. (Kendrick Ivan B. Panganiban / CBCP News).
