MANILA, March 7, 2014— Pope Francis and the missionary Church in the modern times will be the focus of the lecture by well-known journalist and “Vaticanist” John Allen in Tagaytay City next week.
“The Catholic Church on the World Stage in the 21st Century” is part of the lecture series for the semicentennial of the Divine Word Seminary at 9:00 a.m. on March 12.
The lecture series started last Feb 21 and Allen was invited to serve as keynote speaker at the conclusion of the event and homecoming of its more than 3,000 alumni.
A rare public conversation between Allen and Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle will also take place at 7:00 p.m. on March 13 at the Elements Eton Centris in Quezon City.
Allen is the prize-winning senior correspondent for the National Catholic Reporter and Senior Vatican Analyst for CNN. He also writes a weekly Internet column titled “All Things Catholic.”
He has written nine best-selling books on the Vatican and Catholic affairs and is internationally known for his talks on such subjects.
His latest book, “Ten Things Pope Francis Wants You to Know”, is highly acclaimed even as he has written biographies of John Paul II and Benedict XVI.
The London Tablet described Allen as “the most authoritative writer on Vatican affairs in the English language” and “the best Anglophone Vatican reporter ever” by renowned papal biographer George Weigel. (CBCPNews)
