MEYCAUAYAN City, Bulacan, October 6, 2016 – Prayer is the surest way to God’s heart, and St. Francis is telling us to value it.

This was the message of Bishop Jose Elmer Mangalinao, Auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of Lingayen-Dagupan, during a Mass celebrated in honor of St. Francis of Assisi, the town’s patron saint, Tuesday, Oct. 4.

“The Lord in the tabernacle is always ready and willing to listen to all our prayers,” said the prelate. “For us to pray, we need to find time, we need to make time, we need to make a space for God.”

The bishop also shared some instances in Francis’ life where prayer clearly transformed him. The prelate shared the story of how when he was inside the church and celebrating the Mass, St. Francis heard the word of God telling him to sell all of his possessions and give all his money to the poor. Right at that moment, he made the decision to follow God. As the account goes, he stood naked in public and returned everything he had to his father, saying, “I am not your son anymore; I am the son of God, and everybody else is my brother and sister.”

Meanwhile, Julie Mallari, Vice Ministra of the Secular Franciscan Order in the parish, said in an interview, there is so much to learn and to admire in the life of St. Francis of Assisi, and indeed, “his being prayerful is one of them.”His followers during his time claimed that “merely seeing Francis is already like praying.”

“And as secular Franciscans, we always make it a habit to follow such [a] prayerful life,” added Mallari. (Myraine Joy Policarpio / CBCPNews)
