“This is an important development because at present, TV Maria is only available in cable television. But through the (advent of new) technology, we are able to bring our presence to mobile devices. This allows us to move with the pace of modern technology,” said Sharon Joy Isla, TV Maria supervisor and production coordinator in Filipino.

TV Maria Philippines features video streaming of TV Maria programs, updates on the its daily programming schedule, sharing of prayer intentions, access to different Catholic content and libraries through congregation websites, and the latest updates on church news and events.

“The Roman Catholic Church recognizes the importance of keeping up with the times to reach out to a greater number of people. TV Maria is its means to cater to a Filipino audience who are hungry for God’s Word through television, as well as through various alternatives such as the Internet and the cellphone,” the application’s description in Google Play read.

The free application can be download using IOS or Google Play.

Isla added, the newly launched application will increase TV Maria’s presence and visibility in the online world.

She noted that TV Maria’s increased presence will also help in deepening the faith of Catholic individuals.

“If we will only rely on TV Maria’s availability in cable stations, it will have a very limited reach. Through this development, our goal to extend TV Maria’s reach to a nationwide level becomes more realistic,” she added.

According to Isla, the app will also encourage interactions among users through the sending of prayer intentions and receiving of prayer grants, which reassures people that a religious group is praying for the intention.

“The TV Maria application is not only meant for interaction. With its use, you will get to know our programming schedule, receive daily gospel reflection, as well as mass and prayer intentions,” she said.

TV Maria is available in Dream Satellite TV (channel 1), Sky Cable (channel 160), Destiny Cable (channel 94), as well as in local cable operators all over the Philippines. (Jennifer M. Orillaza)
