PASAY City, Aug. 15, 2016 – Despite what seemed like gale-force and intermittent rains, thousands of Couples for Christ (CFC) members and members from their ministries, supporters, family, and friends were at the SM Mall of Asia Complex at 4:00 a.m. yesterday, Aug. 14, for the annual CFC ANCOP Global Walk (AGW) to raise funds for scholarships for hundreds of students.
“My umbrella got crushed by the strong winds and torrential rain, but not the spirit of the Ancop Global Day walkers! My clothes got soaking wet, but so were all soaked in the presence of the Holy Spirit. Thank You, Lord, for the experience of walking for a scholar and to be one with brethren to uplift lives,” said CFC leader Kirby Llaban in a Facebook post after the event.
Because of the torrential rains, the CFC International Council (IC) decided to shorten the distance of the walk from 5 kilometers to 3 kilometers for everyone’s safety.
Rainy is still sunny
“Who’s excited to walk?… Do you see the sun out? …Because a sunny day is a rainy day for Couples for Christ!”, said CFC ANCOP chairman Joe Yamamoto, exhorting a drenched crowd during the welcoming remarks.
CFC leader Bob Peñalosa headed ANCOP Global Walk 2016′s opening worship in Metro Manila with people singing in raincoats and carrying umbrellas.
Participants got to warm up after Judith Roman of Gold’s Gym took the stage to lead everyone into an early morning Zumba session.
AGW event head Mike Bukuhan led the countdown to start the walk, which carried the theme Beyond Your Walk, Their Dreams.
Thousands of participants from the different CFC Metro Manila sectors were present, with even groups coming from as far as Rizal, Dumaguete, and Iloilo.
Walking all over the world
Some of the areas that organized local AGWs are Basilan, Compostela Valley, Lanao del Norte, Bohol, Camarines Norte, Quezon, Cebu, Palawan, Kabankalan, Negros, Clark, General Santos City, North Cotabato, Bulacan, Zamboanga City, Masbate, Laguna, Misamis Occidental and Davao.
