MANILA, Dec. 6, 2016 – The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Manila (RCAM) in cooperation with Jesuit Communications Foundation (JesCom) will stage the “Patron of the Arts: an Evening with the Cardinal” concert featuring Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle at the Meralco Theater on Dec. 12, 2016 for the benefit of the retired priests.
This year’s concert titled “Eucharistia” pays tribute to the “Year of the Eucharist and the Family” as declared by the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines and will help gather funds for the elderly priests of the Archdiocese of Manila.
According to the prelate, he hopes that “this year of the Eucharist has engendered greater appreciation and understanding of the Mass, which according to the Council Fathers is ‘the source and summit of the Christian life.’”
As an important highlight of the program, RCAM traditionally bestows the Patron of the Arts Award to outstanding artists who have made significant contributions in their fields. Over the past five years, the award was given to prima ballerina Lisa Macuja, national artist Napoleon Abueva, painter Joey Velasco, and musician Ryan Cayabyab. This year, the award will be given posthumously to the “Father of Filipino Liturgical Music”, the late Fr. Eduardo Hontiveros, SJ.
Launched in 2012, Patron of the Arts was organized to help raise funds for the vital programs of the Archdiocese of Manila.
