MANILA, Dec. 12, 2016— Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle of Manila called on priests to remain true to their calling and to help “untangle the knots” that people are facing instead of being part of the problem.
Presiding over the ordination of four men to the priesthood at the Manila Cathedral on Saturday, he told them that part of their role as stewards is straightening out those problems.
Life is never easy and always complex, said the prelate. Wrong decisions and “defective structures and systems of life”, he said, add to people’s problems.
And helping resolve these complexities is part of the role of stewards. “My brothers who have been ordained to the priesthood, let’s not add to the tangles in people’s lives,” stressed Tagle in Filipino.
“Hopefully, you can help nurture others so they can be free, so they can smile, and feel God holding on to them.”
The deacons ordained to the priesthood were Mark Anthony Balderama, Arnel Calata, Jr., Daniel Voltaire Hui, and Jonathan Noel Mojica.
Tagle gave the men further advice in carrying out their responsibilities as priests.
In presiding over Mass, he told them that their calling is to be living witnesses of the Good News.
“We proclaim it with smile. We proclaim it even with tears,” added the cardinal.
“And finally, pray for the country. Pray for the people,” he also said. (CBCPNews)
