MANILA, Dec. 12, 2016— Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle of Manila called on the faithful to look to the Virgin Mary as model of concrete service to others.
In his homily during a Mass to mark the Feast of the Immaculate Conception in Manila on Dec. 8, he told the faithful that Mary spreads “love and light” in a world engulfed by many challenges.
“Let go those [things that spread] evil and darkness. Let us learn from Mary,” said the prelate.
Abuse of freedom
The cardinal, who just came from Rome, also lamented how people abuse God’s gift of human freedom by making decisions that turn them and others away from God.
“Instead of loving and choosing the good, this freedom was used to turn away from God,” explained Tagle.
According to him, this is the source and true nature of “what we call sin” which “spreads easily.”
Love conquers all
And people keep making mistakes because they refuse to admit their errors, he said.
“Instead of admitting mistakes with humility, we look for someone to blame. Arrogance. We blame everything on others,” he said.
But despite man’s imperfections, Tagle said God responded with love.
“For love will conquer sin. Love will conquer pride. Love will embrace even sin. God never surrenders,” he said. (CBCPNews)
