Tagle names Manila’s new Presbyteral Council members

MANILA, Aug. 15, 2015 – Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio G. Cardinal Tagle has constituted the Archdiocese’s new Presbyteral Council and named its members in a circular dated Aug. 10, 2015.

The members of the Presbyteral Councilcomprise Ex-Officio members who are as follows:

  • Bishop Broderick Pabillo, Bishop-in-charge of Pastoral Secretariat and Council on Formation and Episcopal Vicar for Manila Guest Priests
  • Msgr. Jose Clemente Ignacio, Vicar General and Moderator Curiae
  • Fr. Reginald Malicdem, Chancellor
  • Fr. Cesar Buhat, Oeconomus
  • Msgr. Esteban Lo, LRMS, Episcopal Vicar for Foreign Communities Concern
  • Msgr. Jesus – Norriel Bandojo, Episcopal Vicar for the Diocesan Clergy
  • Fr. James Ferry, MM, Acting Episcopal Vicar of the Religious

Elected members are:

  • Fr. Hector Ulysses Cañon, Vicar Forane, Holy Spirit
  • Fr. Benito Tuazon, Vicar Forane, Holy Family
  • Fr. Benjie Ledesma, Vicar Forane, Nuestra Señora de Guia
  • Fr. Jerome Secillano, Vicar Forane, Our Lady of Loreto
  • Fr. Alexander Thomas, Vicar Forane, San Fernando de Dilao
  • Fr. Benjamin Jugueta, Jr. Vicar Forane, Our Lady of Guadalupe
  • Msgr. Roberto Espenilla, Vicar Forane, St. Joseph the Worker
  • Msgr. Hernando Coronel, Vicar Forane, San Jose de Trozo

Meanwhile, the council’s appointed members are the following:

  • Msgr. Geronimo Reyes, Judicial Vicar
  • Fr. Rufino Sescon, Jr., Commissioner on Formation of the Laity and Christian Communities
  • Fr. Jason Laguerta, Director of Philippine Conference on New Evangelization (PCNE)

The Code of Canon Law of the Roman Catholic Church mandates the Presbyteral Council to be a principal consultative body to assist and advise the archbishop or bishop in the pastoral governance of the diocese and on matters that concern the pastoral welfare of the faithful.

Members are either ex-officio because of the position they hold, elected like the vicar foranes who are elected by the parish priests of the vicariates, or appointed by the archbishop.

The Archdiocese of Manila’s Presbyteral Council usually meets once a month. (CBCP News)
