MANILA, Feb. 10, 2014—The CBCP-National Secretariat for Social Action, Justice and Peace (NASSA) in collaboration with the Integrated Rural Development Foundation (IRDF), Foundation for the Philippine Environment (FPE), and United Nations Civil Society Advisory Council (UN CSAC) will hold a two-day conference-dialogue in view of improving the rehabilitation efforts ongoing in typhoon-stricken areas in the Visayas.

Themed “Rehab & Reform: Rebuilding the Visayas, Rebuilding the Nation”, the conference will be held at Cebu Business Hotel, F&C Square, Colon corner Junquera Streets, Cebu City on February 12-13.

The conference-dialogue aims to share the best practices and outstanding experiences of different industries in community rebuilding and to sharpen approaches in how to strengthen people’s role in the rebuilding processes, according to NASSA Executive Secretary, Fr. Edwin Gariguez.

“We want also to promote a different people-public partnership (PPP) in support of the calamity rehabilitation projects conducted by private, government and NGOs in the affected areas as well as to develop some strategies and doables in linking rehabilitation and reform,” Gariguez cited.

The convenors hope to gather the representatives of different agencies and institutions actively involved in the ongoing relief and rehabilitation efforts in the affected regions such as Church, international volunteer agencies, civil society organizations, Red Cross, and even government agencies.

With this, Gariguez encouraged the directors and staff of the Diocesan Social Action Centers to attend.

“We are given 20 slots for this dialogue forum, and we need to know who among our partners will be interested. Our counterpart will be the transportation expense of all those who will attend from our network dioceses. Let us maximize our participation for this event,” Gariguez furthered.

The conference will conclude with a constructive dialogue with different government agencies involved in the reconstruction of the devastated areas such as the Office of Senator Loren Legarda, Department of National Defense (DND), Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), local government units and the Office of Rehabilitation Czar Ping Lacson.
