LIPA City, April 18, 2013—Around 708 youth spent a summer week to hear about Church teachings on evangelization, as well as to celebrate the Archdiocese of Lipa’s 103rd anniversary as a diocese last April 8–12.
Lipa Archbishop Ramon C. Arguelles, who officiated the opening mass with 12 other priests, welcomed the delegates at the Metropolitan Cathedral of St. Sebastian and encouraged them to follow St. Pedro Calungsod as a model for young Filipinos who constantly lived with the challenge to sanctify, evangelize and be in communion with others – much like the theme of the regional camp itself.
The theme of the celebration was, “Young disciples towards Sanctification, Evangelization and Communion” which was based on the Scripture verse, “Go and make disciples of all nations” (Matthew 28:19).
Aside from talks, the delegates also spent time to share and be with foster families in Lipa.
Officially called the QUEMARLABARO Regional Youth Camp 2013, the event sought to provide formation on sanctification, evangelization and communion to young people from Quezon, Marinduque, Laguna, Batangas and Mindoro, hence the name.
The activity was headed by Archbishop Arguelles, Fr. Ephraim A. Cabrera, the Lipa Archdiocesan youth commission Director, Fr. Reggie Mamaril and Fr. Boyet Valenzuela, the regional director and assistant director respectively.
The Diocese of Boac sent 37 delegates; Diocese of Gumaca, 38 delegates, 26 delegates came from the Diocese of Lucena, while the Apostolic Vicariate of Calapan sent the second highest number of participants with 43 delegates. The Prelature of Infanta sent 42 delegates, with the Diocese of San Pablo sending the biggest delegation with 61 people. Likewise, the Archdiocese of Lipa had a total number of 254 delegates and 202 youth volunteers and facilitators for the event. (Nirva’ana Delacruz)
