QUEZON City, Dec. 15, 2015 – The Ecclesia Dei Society of St. Joseph-UNA VOCE Philippines invites the public to take part in a series of “Simbang Gabi” (Rorate Mass) in Latin it plans to celebrate from Dec. 16 until Christmas Eve, Dec. 24 at the Most Holy Redeemer Parish, Araneta Avenue, Quezon City for the success of the 51st International Eucharistic Congress in Cebu in Jan. 2016.

According to Miguel Madarang, a member of the group, the Rorate Masses will also be “offered for the perseverance of the Filipino nation in the Faith and the preservation of the Holy Religion in this part of the world.”

He pointed out that this is the original intention of Simbang Gabi when this privilege was first granted to the Church in the Philippines over a hundred years ago.

Extraordinary form

Also known as Societas Ecclesia Dei Sancte Ioseph-UNA VOCE Philippines (SEDSI-UVP), the Ecclesia Dei Society of St. Joseph-UNA VOCE Philippines aims to “promote and defend the Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite, and the sense of the sacred in the Liturgy.” It adds that SEDSI-UVP members do this “always in alignment with and in obedience to the canonical norms and lawful ecclesiastical authorities of the Roman Catholic Church.”

The lay organization is affiliated with UNA VOCE International, with Fr. Jojo Zerrudo of the Diocese of Cubao serving as its chaplain.

The schedule of Rorate Masses is as follows:

  • Dec. 16 to 23 – 11:00 p.m.
  • Dec. 24 – 11:30 p.m.
