Renowned Bible professor to give series of seminars in Manila

MANILA, July 26, 2013—One of the world’s acknowledged experts in the study of the Bible and languages is scheduled to give special courses at the University of Asia and the Pacific in Ortigas, Pasig on August 1, 2 and 3. 

Dr. Christophe Rico, currently the Director of the Jerusalem Institute of Languages and Humanities will hold a series of conferences, to lead participants into a deeper appreciation of the bible. 

On August 1, from 1:30 to 5:00 in the afternoon, he will discuss the “language of the Bible” which will help the participants have a deeper understanding of the Sacred Scriptures. 

Divided in two parts, the conference will discuss Tradition and Textual Transmission of the Bible; and Deciphering the Prophecy of the Emmanuel.

The conference is intended for College students, Religion Teachers, History and Language Professors and anyone interested in developing a deeper appreciation of the Bible. 

Participants are required to pay a seminar fee of P500, but students may avail of the 20% discount in the registration fee. 

On August 2, Rico will give a full day seminar on the Hellenistic and Roman Culture and Language which will cover three main parts: “The Hellenistic World and Its Language”; “Birth, Splendor and Fall of the Library of Alexandria”; and, “Theory of Translation: How Can We Assess the Quality of a Translation?” 

Designed for a smaller group, the conference is intended for Religion Teachers, History and Language Professors, Researchers and Academicians and anyone interested to explore the Greek Culture and Civilization. A seminar fee of P1,000 is required, inclusive of certificate, lunch and snacks. 

Rico will also demonstrate a new method of learning languages, the Polis Method, which he helped develop at the Jerusalem Institute. This workshop/seminar on August 3, is limited to only 30 participants and has a registration fee of P1,000, inclusive of certificate, lunch and snacks. 

Dr. Rico has a PhD. in Linguistics from the University of Paris-Sorbonne. He holds an “Agrégation de Grammaire” and a PhD in Greek linguistics. He is a Greek professor at the Ecole Biblique et Archéologique Française in Jerusalem and has been guest professor in the French department at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. 

The series of conferences are being organized by CATALYST for Professional Development and the Department of Theology of the University of Asia and the Pacific on the occasion of the Year of Faith.
