SAN JOSÉ City, Nueva Ecija, Sept. 29, 2015 – Good news! Registration for the first ever International Youth (YouCat) Congress has been extended until Oct. 15.
Fr. Richard P. Lagos, YouCat Philippines director, explained that due to insistent public demand, organizers of the event have decided to extend the registration deadline to accommodate more people interested to join.
In line with this, the priest renewed his invitation to bishops, priests, youth directors, youth ministry heads, and catechists from the arch/dioceses of the Philippines and other countries and member-organizations of the Federation of National Youth Organizations (FNYO) to be part of the three-day gathering.
‘Congress of Mercy’
He pointed out the event aims to bring the Joy of the Gospel on God’s mercy and compassion to the world’s youth through YouCat.
Themed “Echoing God’s Promise of Mercy” from Mother Mary’s Magnificat (Luke 1:54), the first international YouCat Congress which is also called “Congress of Mercy” will serve as a prelude to the celebrations for the Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy to open on Dec. 8, 2015.
According to Lagos, YouCat PH with its prelate-in-charge San José, Nueva Ecija Bishop Roberto C. Mallari, who also chairs the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP)’s Episcopal Commission on Catechesis and Catholic Education (ECCCE), look forward to the event which is expected to draw delegates from various ecclesiastical territories of the Philippines and abroad.
Invited “catechist-speakers” and their assigned talks are as follows:
- Manila Archbishop Luís Antonio G. Cardinal Tagle, who is also a member of YouCat International Advisory Board on “Remembering and Retelling the Story of the Poor Christ in Asia”
- Mariologist and author Msgr. Sabino Vengco, The Role of Mary in the New Evangelization
- Msgr. Gerry Santos, CBCP-ECCCE executive secretary, “Youth and Catechesis: Echoing God’s Promise and Mercy”
- Pasig Bishop Mylo Hubert C. Vergara, chair of the Episcopal Commission on Social Communications (ECSC), “Responses to the Challenges of Catechesis in the Philippines and Asia”
Meanwhile, YouCat Foundation International President Bernhard Meuser will look back on “The Birth of the Youth Catechism of the Catholic Church (YouCat) and the Provenance of the YouCat Development Project” and YouCat PH Director Fr. Richard P. Lagos is set to discuss “YouCat Philippines: Hopes and Goals.”
The First International YouCat Congress of Mercy is scheduled on Nov. 5 to 7, at the Development Academy of the Philippines Convention Center (DAPCC), Tagaytay City.
