Public invited to free talk on papacy

MAKATI City, June 2, 2015—“Did Jesus Make Peter the Head of the Church? If so, did Jesus intend for Peter’s authority to pass to his successors, the bishops of Rome? … What’s up with the whole infallibility thing? Does anybody believe that stuff anymore?”

All these—and more—are some of the questions a forthcoming talk on the papacy seeks to shed light on all for the benefit of the faithful.

The Rock

Entitled “The Papacy,” the discussion aims to show interested participants proof that Jesus indeed founded the Catholic Church on the “Rock” that is Peter, enabling them to tell the difference between the Greek words “petra” and “petros,” and to demonstrate the fisherman’s unique role and authority throughout the Four Gospels, as well as in the Acts of the Apostles.

Drawing from both the Bible and the writings of the Church Fathers, they will also learn to share how Jesus intended the apostles’ authority, including Peter’s, to be passed on to their successors down to the present.

Seeing that it is one of the most misunderstood and misrepresented concepts in Catholicism, the talk will also explain what infallibility is and what it is not.

Organized by the Word Media Ministry, in tandem with the Defensores Fidei Foundation (DFF), “Papacy” is part of the group’s monthly “Catechesis in Action: Making Apostles Love and Understand the Faith” (CIA MaluFAITH), and will feature Mr. Iboy Pinga as speaker.

It is scheduled on June 5, Friday, 7:30 p.m. at the St. Francis de Sales Hall, Don Bosco Compound, Makati City.

Admission is free. (Raymond A. Sebastián/CBCP News)
