MANILA, May 19, 2015—A Catholic priest believes there is no other way to the Lord more effective than consecration to His Blessed Mother, stressing devotion to the Queen of Heaven is ultimately Christ-centered.
To Jesus through Mary
“Devotion to Mary will help lead you to the Lord … Mary consecrated herself totally to the Lord, so the moment we consecrate ourselves to her, we also consecrate ourselves to Jesus,” said Fr. Melvin P. Castro in a recent talk he gave members of the the Company of St. Dominic (CSD) at Santa Catalina College, Manila.
The priest from the Diocese of Tarlac would have none of the recycled allegation that devotion to Mary, a “mere human,” detracts from the worship of God.
“Will a painter take offense when people keep praising his masterpiece and not him?” asked Castro, using a classic analogy.
He explained the adulation admirers accord the artwork reflects on the artist himself who is responsible for the existence of the painting in the first place.
“Will God get jealous? Of course not. He’s the One who created Mother Mary. It is a compliment to the Author and Creator. He will not be jealous. He will in fact be happy, because we appreciate His masterpiece … and His masterpiece is Mary,” added Castro, who is also the founder of the Confraternity of Mary Mediatrix of All Grace.
He pointed out devotion to the Blessed Virgin is as simple as reciting short prayers daily for 33 days, culminating with the consecration on a Marian feast during which the one performing it places himself under the protective mantle of Mary, becoming “totus tuus” (all yours).
St. Louis-Marie Grignon de Montfort, Pope John Paul II, Mother Teresa, and Maximilian Kolbe were just a handful in the long list of spiritual athletes who entrusted themselves completely to the Blessed Virgin.
