MANILA, Oct. 19, 2016 – Recognizing that prayer is still the most powerful force for social change, a pro-life youth group is inviting the public to the “Love + Life prayer gathering, Filipinos at prayer for the nation: For respect and the protection of the dignity of life” on Oct. 22, 5:00 p.m. at the National Shrine of Our Mother of Perpetual Help, also known as Baclaran Church.
“In the midst of all that is happening everyday in our country, quarrels among our public officials, extra judicial killings, increasing number of deaths of alleged drug pushers and users, and blatant abuse of human rights, we find it fitting to gather like-minded people especially the youth, to unite in prayer and pray for our nation, our leaders, and those who were killed in the process of eliminating [the] drug problem in our country,” said Peter Pardo, Love + Life president.
According to him, the event, which will begin with a Mass, is also in celebration of October as the Month of the Rosary.
“We thought of organizing a Mass and a living rosary wherein the intentions will be for the nation and our leaders, and for the respect and protection of the dignity of life,” added Pardo.
The prayer gathering will include a living rosary with a personal sharing coming from selected individuals preceding each mystery. One of those chosen to share during the program is Ace Elevera, a former drug user and pusher who is now a Catholic lay missionary serving CFC – Singles for Christ.
The event’s project head, Paul Guimary, meanwhile, called on young people to get more involved in the issue of drug-related summary executions and killings.
“Be the voice of the voiceless! … Never be afraid to stand for what is right and to ignore evil for it will thrive when good people do nothing! Use our available resources such as social media, within our spheres, friends,” he said.
