JARO, Iloilo, Oct. 8, 2014 – The launching of the National Catechetical Month in Iloilo came with a twist with the “presence” of Pope Francis.
Before the Holy Mass Jaro Archbishop Angelo N. Lagdameo and priest concelebrants posed for a “groupie shot” with “Pope Francis” at the entrance of he National Shrine of Our Lady of Candles (Jaro Metropolitan Cathedral).
“Pope Francis” is the photo standee distributed by Catholic Radio Veritas 846, encouraging people to have a picture with the “Pope” to promote the upcoming papal visit on Jan. 15-19, 2015.
After the Holy Mass, a floral offering was made before the tomb of the late Archbishop Jose Maria Cuenco, to commemorate his 43rd death anniversary, and also as a tribute to him for being the first Filipino Bishop of Jaro and the founder of the diocese’s Pius XII Institute of Catechetics, the pioneer catechetical school in the country.
A short memorial lecture entitled “Hagiographical Catechesis and the New Evangelization” followed at the Pius XII Institute Catechetical and Pastoral Center given by Dr. Linda Tacorda, Ph.D., of the Jaro Archdiocesan Commission on Catechesis and Catholic Education (ACCCE).
This year’s National Catechetical Month carries the theme “Ikay kag Ako: LAIKO; Ikaw, Kita, KATEKISTA!” (Fr. Mickey Cardenas)
