SAN MATEO, Rizal, July 5, 2016 – The Holy Father has finally approved the petition for the canonical coronation of the image of the Nuestra Señora de Aranzazu, which is venerated in its diocesan shrine and parish in this municipality.
The diocesan shrine rector and parish priest Fr. Lawrence C. Paz made the announcement after receiving an official communication from Antipolo Bishop Gabriel V. Reyes, DD.
Aside from conferring honor on the Blessed Mother, the proclamation recognizes the deeply- rooted and fervent devotion of the people of San Mateo, Rizal to the Virgin Mary as manifested by the shrine’s thick compilation of testimonials of miracles and favors sought and received through her intercession.
The parish pastoral council has yet to finalize details of the canonical coronation.
According to Atom Yango, the parish’ social communications head, the Holy Father’s proclamation “ushers [in] a more meaningful and spirit-filled celebration” of their parish fiesta in September as well as of their parish’s third centenary.
Two other canonically crowned images of the Blessed Mother in the Diocese of Antipolo are the image of the Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage, crowned in 1926, and Marikina’s Patroness, Our Lady of the Abandoned, crowned in 2005.
Other similar canonically crowned images in the Philippines are:
- Our Lady of Naval (1907);
- Our Lady of Peñafrancia (1924);
- Our Lady of Manaoag (1926);
- and the Santo Niño de Cebu (1964). (dioceseofantipolo.org / CBCPNews)
