MANILA, June 13, 2015— Pope Francis appointed a priest from Bataan as the new bishop of the Diocese of Gumaca in Quezon province.
The appointment of Monsignor Victor Ocampo, 63, as the fifth bishop of Gumaca was announced by the Vatican yesterday.
Bishop-elect Ocampo is currently the chancellor of the Diocese of Balanga and parish priest of the Santo Domingo Church in Abucay town, Bataan.
He will succeed Bishop Buenaventura Famadico who was transferred to the Diocese of San Pablo in Laguna in 2013.
Balanga Bishop Ruperto Santos said Ocampo is “very dedicated and devoted to his priestly duties.”
Bishop-elect Ocampo was born in Angeles City, Pampanga in 1952. He was ordained a priest of the Diocese of Balanga in 1977.
Since his ordination, he has also served various pastoral and diocesan roles; and member of the College of Consultors.
Bishop Santos said Ocampo’s Episcopal ordination will be held at the Balanga cathedral on August 29.
No date has been set for the installation of Ocampo as bishop of Gumaca. (CBCPNews)
