ALISEDA, Spain, August 11, 2011?Delegates from the Diocese of Bacolod experienced the typical Spanish culture on their 1st day stay in Pueblo de Aliseda, Provincia de Caceres, as part of their five-day immersion in World Youth Day’s (WYD) Days in the Diocese.
Lack of facility in the Spanish language proved to be a hindrance in communicating effectively with the local people.
One of the delegates, Jed Vargas in an interview, said that they are having a hard time in communicating with the locals.
“Hindi sila marunong mag-english. Buti nalang at may mga kasama kaming marunong magsalita ng Espanyol pero napakonti lang. Kaya pag may wifi, nagbubukas agad kami ng translator via internet. Para magkaintindihan lang,” Vargas said.
The local community has welcomed delegates from ECY Philippines evening of August 9, after which the delegates were accompanied to a community house for their accommodation.
The delegates later had a tour around the pueblo (municipality) riding in a train-like cart, followed by a visit to a museum where they saw an old antique house that dates back to19th century.
Delegates were also astonished to view the replicas of “el tesoro de Aliseda” in another local museum. They were replicas of antique decorations for the body made in gold.
A celebration was held later in the evening where the delegates were invited to dance the traditional dance of Spain.
The delegates had also watched a bull fight in Mata de Alcantara on August 9.
Delegates from Malolos, Bulacan who are assigned in the said parish attended a noontime mass at the parish of Sta. Maria de Gracia for the feast day of San Lorenzo.
On August 11, activities will formally begin in the parish of Aliseda, Mata de Caceres and all the parishes in the diocese. It will go on until August 15.
Delegates have been assigned to different parishes within the Diocese of Coria-Caceres to understand the typical Spanish culture and exchange cultural backgrounds among each other. (Jandel Posion)
