PH film bags Audience Choice Award in Mexico

GUADALAJARA, Mexico, Dec. 1, 2016 – Ignacio de Loyola, the Filipino-produced biopic about St. Ignatius of Loyola,  founder of the Society of Jesus, won the Audience Choice Award (Gran Premio del Publico) at the recently concluded Festival Internacional de Cine con Valores held from Nov. 11 to 27 in this city.

The festival, now on its 12th year, showcased some of the best values-oriented films around the world, including  Sully (USA),  Un Cuento Chino (Argentina), Rams (Iceland), Loving (USA) and Cura Brochero (Argentina). Ignacio de Loyola, produced by Jesuit Communications Foundation Philippines and directed by Paolo Dy, opened the festival with a full house on Nov. 10 at the Cinepolis Galerias, the first Filipino film to do so in the festival’s history.

“It was a massive hit,” says festival coordinator Ana Rosa Toledo Alarcón.  “All seats were taken and there [were] people that could not get in because the projection theater was already filled. It was the best way to begin our festival.”

Present during the festival was lead actor Andreas Muñoz, who flew all the way from London just to attend the gala night.  He says he was surprised at the reaction of the audience.

“They truly loved the film and the story of Ignacio. The whole experience taught me that there are no frontiers in the world for this film. This story can be related everywhere at any time.”

Meanwhile, Alarcon was very thankful that the film was screened at the festival.

“We were touched by this exciting and beautiful movie. The people were thrilled and joyful at the end of the movie and they left the theater with a smile on their faces,” she shared.
