MANILA, April 22, 2015— Parents play a key role in keeping their children off the use of illegal drugs, a Catholic bishop said.
Butuan Bishop Juan De Dios Pueblos said the fight against drugs must start in the family and parents must be aware of where their children are at all times, as well as the company they were keeping.
“Be (parents) the first to fight illegal drugs,” Pueblos said in a state news report.
The prelate made the statement during the recent ecumenical prayer gathering dubbed “Butuan Youth Arise” in Butuan City.
The bishop also lamented the rising problem of drug abuse in the city and in other parts of Agusan del Norte province.
As parents, according to Pueblos, they have major impact on their children’s decision to use drugs or not.
“Parents must always be there to give love, care and constant guidance for their children,” he said. (CBCPNews)
