MANILA, July 1, 2015—The faithful of Pandacan came in full force as they welcomed their former deacon—this time as their new chief pastor—on Tuesday, June 30, following the recent reshuffling of parochial assignments in the Archdiocese of Manila (RCAM).
Coming full circle
In his first homily as parish priest of the famous Santo Niño de Pandacan, Fr. Sanny C. De Claro waxed nostalgic as he looked back on the brief period he spent there almost a quarter of a century earlier.
“I was here 24 years ago … I never expected I would come back to this place 24 years later,” he said, still overwhelmed by how fast events turned.
“I had my diaconate here, and I became a priest also here … So, in a way, I could say Santo Niño de Pandacan is my first love,” he added, highlighting the special spot the 300 year-old church occupies in his heart.
De Claro served as rector of the Archdiocesan Shrine of Nuestra Señora de Guía in Ermita, Manila.
Moreover, he is the director of RCAM’s Human Resource Development Department (HRDD), minister prefect of the Dominican secular institute, Company of St. Dominic (CSD), and a spiritual director of the El Shaddai DWXI Prayer Partners Foundation.
Thanking God for another milestone in his sacerdotal life, the 52-year old priest went on to exclaim “Grabe si Lord (God is amazing)” with little effort to hide his emotion.
“At the end of the day, Jesus Christ is the True Priest,” he stressed. (Raymond A. Sebastián/CBCP News)
