QUEZON City, Dec. 14, 2015 – The Diocese of Novaliches, in line with the preparations for the 5th Centennary of Christianity in the Philippines, launched on Dec. 4 the Year of the Eucharist and the Family during a Holy Mass celebrated by Bishop Antonio Tobias. D.D. for the diocese’ 3-in-1 celebration held at the Mary the Queen Parish in Teresa Heights, Quezon City.
The 3-in-1 celebration was meant to commemorate in one event Tobias’ 50th sacerdotal anniversary on Dec. 21, the diocese’ 13th anniversary on Dec. 7, and the diocese’ Christmas party.
The prelate, in his homily, explained to the assembly that the Year of the Eucharist and the Family is part of the Nine-Year Era of Evangelization of the Catholic Church in the Philippines to celebrate 500 years of Christianity in the country on March 16, 2021. He noted that the launching simultaneously closed the local celebration for the Year of the Poor and the Year of Consecrated Life.
He also stressed the importance of this new year, especially with the country hosting the International Eucharistic Congress in Cebu on Jan. 24 to 31, 2016.
Interestingly, he urged members of the clergy–in line with what was discussed during the recently-concluded Synod on the Family and with the changes initiated by Pope Francis on the process of nullifying marriages–to be careful in officiating weddings by making sure beforehand that couples are truly capable of living out a Christian marriage and a successful marriage.
The said Holy Mass also culminated the preparatory talk on the topic, “What does Jesus want me to do for Him during the Year of the Family?”, hosted at 4:00 p.m. of the same day by the Diocese of Novaliches’ Commission on Family and Life in line with the Year of the Eucharist and the Family.
Diocese of Novaliches Commission on Family and Life director Fr. Daniel Allan Samonte gave the talk, based on the Bible passage Mark 10:51.
The Diocese’s Commission on Youth, in support of the Year of the Eucharist and the Family, has taken an active role in promoting the devotion to Our Lady Undoer of Knots among the youth to bring them closer to The Blessed Mother. The devotion was launched on Dec. 8, Feast of the Immaculate Conception and also of the Feast of Our Lady Undoer of Knots, through a Holy Mass presided over by Tobias at 6 p.m. at Kristong Hari Parish, future Shrine of the Youth.
Kristong Hari parish priest Fr. Roland Jaluag also graced the preparatory talk of the Commission of Family and Life on the Year of the Eucharist and the Family to promote the devotion to Our Lady Undoer of Knots and its historical launching in the Diocese of Novaliches, which is expected to help enliven the faith of not only the youth but also of families and of Filipinos.

The Year of the Eucharist and the Family is meant to “emphasize on forming the Filipino Family as a Eucharistic community of parents and children, true to its name as a domestic church, rooted in the Eucharist,” as per the CBCP Pastoral Exhortation on the Era of New Evangelization issued on July 23, 2012 by then-CBCP president Bishop Jose S. Palma, D.D. (Minnie Abigail Alejandro Agdeppa / CBCP News)
