MANILA, Oct. 21, 2016— Nominations are now open for a new awards program that recognizes the best social media communicators who champion good values and life-changing advocacies.

Organized by the lay group Youth Pinoy (YP), nominations for the 2nd Catholic Social Media Awards should be made online via www.catholicsocialmediaawards.com until Oct. 30, 2016.

Michael Laxina, president of YP, an alliance of “online missionaries”, said the group would like to honor people and groups which are making a positive impact through social media and who continue to stand for their faith online.

‘Faith in action’

“We would recognize those making a positive impact, [engaging] with followers and views and leading them to social action… a faith in action,” he said.

The winners will be announced on Nov. 19 at the Hotel H2O, Manila Ocean Park Complex, Luneta, Manila.

The awards are available in 14 categories:

  • Best Facebook Page
  • Best Facebook Group

Laxina said only Philippine-based accounts will be accepted. Self-nominations are also encouraged, and groups can be nominated in multiple categories.

The CSMA is also in collaboration with Areopagus Communications, which is under the auspices of the Media Office of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines.

First recipients

This year’s Catholic Social Media Summit will precede the awards’ night.

Last year, the first recipients of the CSMA were AlDub “Kalye-serye” stars Alden Richards, Maine Mendoza, and Wally Bayola.

Organizers said the stars of the “Eat Bulaga” noontime show segment were chosen for their “inspiring message” about “virtues, values, chivalry, respect for elders, waiting for true love,” among others.

For inquiries, interested parties may contact the CSMA organizers via email at catholicsocialmediaawards@gmail.com or through the phone number (02) 404-2182. (Ysabel Hilado / CBCPNews)
