MANILA, July 26, 2015 – Catholic netizens spoke up about CBCP president Archbishop Socrates Villegas’ call to prayer for the peaceful resolution of what looks like an ongoing crisis in the leadership of Iglesia ni Cristo (INC).
“In spite of being married to a non Catholic for 21 years I still stand firm in my belief as Catholic. It’s something about our teaching and culture that assure me this is the real one. The fact that we are asked by our leaders to pray for them instead of speculating and spreading humors,” said Jo Fancubila Echon, commenting on the CBCP News Facebook post about the prelate’s request.
For another netizen, Josefino Valencio, Villegas’ call was a sign of the prelate’s “humility, love, and peace.”
Rene Catalan Lacaba said the public should also pray for “the unity of our brothers and sisters”, most especially that of INC leaders.
Fremar Silva commented, “After all, we are brothers and sisters in one Lord.”
Another netizen said he was proud of being Catholic because the Church teaches us “to pray for our brothers ad sisters as we are the children of God even … non-Catholic members.”
