MANILA, June 11, 2014—The Archdiocese of Manila (RCAM) invites the faithful to take part in the yearly observance of the “Feast of Corpus Christi” on June 22, Sunday, at the Our Lady of the Pillar Parish Church in Santa Cruz in honor of the “Most Holy Body and Blood of the Lord”.
The schedule of the archdiocesan celebration is as follows:
1:30 – 2:00 p.m. Assembly at Our Lady of the Pillar Parish Church (Santa Cruz Church)
2:00 – 2:30 p.m. Silent prayer before the Blessed Sacrament
2:30 – 3:20 p.m. Talk by Novaliches Bishop Emeritus Teodoro Bacani
3:30 – 4:45 p.m. Eucharistic Celebration with RCAM Archbishop Luís Antonio G. Cardinal Tagle
4:45 – 6:00 p.m. Solemn procession to Manila Metropolitan Cathedral-Basilica
This important liturgical feast, which Filipino Catholics celebrate on the first Sunday after the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity, is rooted in the tradition and belief in the body and blood of Jesus Christ and His “real presence” in the Eucharist.
In Catholic countries where the solemnity is a holy day of obligation, Corpus Christi is observed on the Thursday following Trinity Sunday. (Raymond A. Sebastián)
