MARILAO, Bulacan, April 24, 2016 – The Diocese of Malolos’ Commission on Social Action launched on April 22 Green Guitars, a concert in celebration of Earth Day 2016.
Held at SM City Marilao Open Parking, from 7:00 to 11:00 p.m., the concert featured Ebe Dancel of the former Sugarfree band and Filipino rock band Sponge Cola.
“This event is a celebration of Earth Day. But the call to care for the environment does not last only for one day during Earth Day or only one hour like the Earth Hour we celebrated last March. The care for the earth, our home, is something we have to do everyday,” said Fr. Leopoldo S. Evangelista III, director for the Diocesan Ecological and Environmental Program (DEEP) under the Commission on Social Action.
During the event, the priest got a chance to talk about the value of seeing the environmental situation of cities and municipalities within the diocese in order to appreciate the need for proper garbage disposal and to promote the ecological agenda of the diocese.
He also said Marilao, Bulacan was a good choice for a venue since it was near the Marilao River, which unfortunately is considered one of the most polluted rivers in the world due to garbage dumping.
The concert featured a distinctive stage, which was solar power-run, in line with the event’s aim of promoting ecological awareness among the youth.
Solar power panels were charged the whole day in order to power the generators used for the show. Besides this, the event program included short segments on proper waste segregation and the distribution of seedlings for the home, sponsored by the Department on Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).
