MANILA Sept. 3, 2015— The lay faithful, not just priests, have roles to play to make the celebration of the Eucharist more deeply and truly joyful, a church official said.
Monsignor Gerardo Santos, executive secretary of the CBCP Episcopal Commission on Catechesis and Catholic Education (CBCP), said the priest and the faithful must help each other face the challenge of creating an “atmosphere of celebration” during the Eucharist.
According to him, the sacrament of the Eucharist is the communion of God with men.
“Now, the challenge to those who prepare the liturgy, priests, those who prepare the music, and the lectors, is to create that atmosphere of celebration,” Santos said.
He added that while the presiding priest has a crucial role, lay people are also needed to achieve that “sense of celebration.”
“If we are able to do that, more people will go to church. Moreover, more people will also live the spirituality of the Eucharist,” Santos added. (CBCP News)
