MEYCAUAYAN, Bulacan, Dec. 10, 2015 – The Knights of Columbus St. Francis of Assisi Council 3941 gave a unique twist to the usual Christmas caroling. Instead of accepting gifts from the homeowners, they were the ones who gave away presents to the families.
“After visiting the houses of our members to raise funds for our projects this holiday season, we randomly selected some households in the area, which we thought are in dire need of care,” Grand Knight SK Arnel Merca told CBCP News.
This project has been ongoing for more than five years and the council plans to continue this effort in the years to come. “At first, some of the families were hesitant to open their doors but they were surprised and became teary-eyed when they accepted our gifts,” he continued.
“The families are overwhelmed after knowing that we have brought some goods for them,” SK Dominador Alcaraz said. According to him, the experience was “very heartwarming” since they were “able to bring the spirit of Christmas to less fortunate brothers and sisters.”
“I feel blessed every time I see them, particularly the children, still smiling despite their living conditions,” Alcaraz added.
Aside from this project, the council also affirmed its commitment to extend its time, effort, and resources to its parish’s gift-giving program to be held later this month.
“In our own little way, we would like to inspire others to help the needy not only during the holidays but also in their everyday life. And as members of this brotherhood, we remain united with the Holy Church in acts of charity, especially in activities that promote the welfare of the outcasts,” PGK SK Felix Zamora told CBCP News.
