QUEZON City, May 15, 2014—The Jesuit community, the academe, and history buffs mourn the loss of one of Philippine historiography’s towering icons, historian Fr. John N. Schumacher, SJ.
An official statement, issued by the Loyola School of Theology on its website, confirmed the demise Wednesday, May 14, of its 86-year old professor emeritus at The Medical City in Pasig from complications of anemia and urinary infection.
His wake is being held at the Oratory of St. Ignatius, Loyola House of Studies (LST), Ateneo de Manila University, Loyola Heights, Quezon City.
Daily wake masses are set at 8:00 pm.
The final funeral mass is scheduled on Saturday, 17 May 2014, 8:00 am also at the Oratory of St. Ignatius.
Interment follows at the Sacred Heart Novitiate in Novaliches, Quezon City.
Fr. Jack, as he was known to colleagues and students, entered the Society of Jesus on July 30, 1944, and was ordained a priest on June 22, 1957.
