MANILA, Oct. 3, 2016— Ateneo de Davao University president Fr. Joel Tabora is taking over the helm of the Catholic Educational Association of the Philippines (CEAP).

He succeeded Lasallian Br. Narciso Erguiza who headed the 75-year old organization since 2013.

The election of Tabora and other CEAP national officers was announced during the organization’s recent convention held in Cebu City.

In his acceptance speech, the priest said among the agendas he will pursue include the implementation of the K-12 program, academic freedom, quality assurance, and the promotion of private-public relationships.

“Allow me to assure all that this discernment will necessarily apply to the manner in which we interact with government…,” he said.

According to him, the group’s dealings with the government “will be in promotion of the particular interests of our schools and of our association but in obedience to the moral imperatives of our Church, in pursuit of the common good.”

CEAP is the umbrella organization of 1, 425 Catholic schools, colleges, and universities nationwide. (Ysabel Hilado / CBCPNews)
