JARO, Iloilo City, July 28, 2016 – A vicariate in this diocese will hold a special event as their own simple way of uniting with Pope Francis and with the hundreds of thousands of young people now gathered in Krakow, Poland, for the 31st World Youth Day (WYD).

The Vicariate of St. Peter, of the Archdiocese of Jaro, through its Youth Ministry, will hold an evening of Taizé prayer in the Espousal of Our Lady Parish in Mandurriao, Iloilo City, tomorrow, July 29, 6:00 p.m.

“Every young Catholic’s wish these days is to be in Krakow with the Pope and with many young people from all over the world to witness and renew their faith,” said Fr. Tomas Elias B. Guidoriagao, Jr. of the Vicariate of St. Peter Youth Ministry.

‘Inapo ni Pedro’

“All the ‘Inapo ni Pedro’ – as the the youth in the Vicariate of St. Peter call themselves – as well as in the whole Archdiocese of Jaro, join together in prayer for the success of the 31st WYD and for the mission of the Church for the youth,” added the priest.

As a manifestation of support for this project showing the young people’s unity with the Holy Father and with the rest of the Catholic Church, the priest declared: “We, the clergy, in the Vicariate of St. Peter, appreciate, fully support, and highly recommend this initiative of our vicariate’s youth ministry council.”

Keeping the fire burning

“We are so proud of our youth! I hope they keep the fire burning,” the youth ministry director added.

Pope Francis recently sent a special message for young people who are unable to make it to Krakow for the WYD event:

“A special word to the many youth of their same age who, unable to be present personally, will follow the event through the media: We are all united in prayer!” (Fr. Mickey Cardenas / CBCP News)
