MANILA, Aug. 13, 2015 – Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle believes that the 51st International Eucharistic Congress (IEC) to be held in the historic city of Cebu on Jan. 24 to 31, 2016 will bring hope and unity in the country.
Tagle cited through this IEC, the Catholic Church and all the faithful could contribute to the search for communion, hope, and unity.
“I want to believe that the IEC is a contribution of the Catholic Church, specially of the church in the Philippines to this regional and international search for what you called communion,” said Tagle during a press conference yesterday, Aug. 12 on the 51st IEC at the Arzobispado De Manila.
He added people are losing their hope because despite being part of groups that gather regularly, “we have also a lot of wars, battles and constant terrorism. However, there is [a] hopeful declaration where Christians find hope with Jesus.”
“The International Eucharistic Congress is about hope. The church for humanity for hope, and our responses is because Christ is in us. Jesus is with us. If nobody turns to you, Jesus is always there all the time. If people ignore you, don’t think of that there’s always someone who thinks of you all time, Jesus is with you. You feel alone? That’s not true! Jesus is there. Emmanuel! God is with us so there is hope!,” Tagle said.
This hope is also a mission for each and every Filipinos to work together, he added. (Yen Ocampo/CBCPNews)
