MATI City, June 13, 2013—The Holy Name Society of the Philippines held its 40th National Convention last May 3-5, at the Betania Retreat House in Tagaytay City.
The annual assembly had the theme “Strengthening the Christian Faith through Evangelization” which was adopted from the theme of the Assembly of the Synod of Bishops “The New Evangelization for the Transmission of the Christian Faith.”
The series of talks given during the convention centered on the theme and the spirit of the society.
Resource speakers include Fr. Enrico Gonzales, OP and Fr. Quirico Pedrogosa, OP who expounded on the theme, while HNS National Promoter and Director Rev. Fr. Edgardo D. Alaurin, OP, and HNS National President Bro. Laureano R. Culala Jr. shared their reflections and experiences on how to keep the HNS spirit alive.
Eleven members of the Holy Name Society (HNS) of the San Nicolas de Tolentino Cathedral Parish, in the Diocese of Mati, Davao Oriental, attended the annual convention.
Headed by HNS Adviser Sis Thelma C. Tajore, the delegates include Bro. Cupertino T. Obguia (HNS President), Bro Lucio G. Jabilles (1st Vice President), Sis Annabelle T. Ortega (2nd Vice President), Sis Lourdes M. Galon (Treasurer), Sis Monica D. Matangcas (Secretary), with members Sis Richel A. Zaspa, Sis Imelda E. Albacite, Sis Elenita J. Jabilles, and two members of the Junior Holy Namers, namely, Sis Chel Angelie A. Zaspa and Bro. Christian Marc C. Tajore.
Sis Lourdes Galon, Mati media coordinator, commented in a casual interview with the radio news team that “all of the 11 [delegates] from Mati found the event very enriching and memorable as it challenged plans to serve more actively in varied missions for evangelization, and it was also a rare privilege to visit and enjoy beautiful lands while we get to know more of each of the members from the different Dioceses.” (Sr. Marietta Alo, OND)
