CACERES, June 27, 2014 – Caceres Archbishop Rolando Tria Tirona gave on May 24 a special message to six newly-professed nuns, telling them to “follow the One you love.”
“When you fall in love, you are bound to follow the one you love. Love is all about fidelity, and this love is persevering,” Caceres Archbishop Rolando Tria Tirona told the new
Missionaries of Charity sisters during their recent profession at the Immaculate Conception Parish, Naga City. Caceres.
‘Sow love of Christ’
Tria Tirona, who presided over the Eucharistic celebration and liturgical rites of profession, stressed the primacy of love, saying “charity binds all [men] together”.
According to him, without love, life is meaningless.
Tirona also acknowledged the presence of the sisters in various countries across the globe and encouraged them to “sow the love of Christ”.
Superior General Sr. Mary Prema Pierick, M.C., family members and friends of the professed were also present during the occasion.
The Missionaries of Charity congregation was founded by Blessed Teresa of Calcutta in 1950.
Vows for life
To date, the congregation is represented in 133 countries.
The Missionaries of Charity sisters are committed to taking care of the sick, the elderly and the abandoned, to name a few. To become one a fully-professed nun entails nine years.
Once professed, a sister of the congregation has only few possessions in life. These include three saris, a pair of sandals, a crucifix, and a rosary. The Missionaries of Charity sisters “vow for life” the following during their profession: chastity, poverty, obedience and whole-hearted and free service to the poorest of the poor.
