BULAKAN, Bulacan, Nov. 19, 2016 – Almost a year after a decree was issued by Malolos Bishop Jose Oliveros declaring the Blessed Virgin Mary, Salus Infirmorum or “Ina ng Kagalingan ng mga Maysakit” as the secondary patron of San Isidro Labrador Parish in Bambang, Bulakan, Bulacan, the faithful were reminded to spread devotion to the Blessed Virgin under the said title during a Mass held Nov. 16, Wednesday.
In his homily, parish priest Fr. Norberto Gagui urged each parish and sub-parish organizations to promote and organize activities that will further show their devotion to Mary, spreading it to more people.
“The Child Jesus being held by Mary exemplifies her primary objective – to introduce and bring Jesus Christ closer to each and everyone” he said of the image, which was painted in 1969. “Mary, Salus Infirmorum does not only bring physical healing but also she bestows spiritual grace.”
Meanwhile, Roman de Jesus, chairman and co-founder of Madonna Salus Infirmorum Apostolate, which was established on Aug. 2, 2014, told CBCP News about their efforts to raise awareness and to promote Marian devotion. He said they are encouraging every household in the parish to enthrone an image of their secondary patron.
Hence, the organization seeks to bring the official pilgrim image of “Mary, Salus Infirmorum” to more locations within and beyond their parish.
According to the late Bishop Emeritus of Malolos Cirilo Almario, during his term, the said image of the Blessed Mother was the first and only icon of its kind, not only in the diocese but also in the country.
After the Mass, the faithful also received “blue scapulars” following the anointing with blessed oil. A procession concluded the festivities. (Myraine Carluen-Policarpio / CBCP News)
