MANILA, July 20, 2011— The government should not just dismiss the grievances raised by retired Navy Col. Generoso Marianao, a military bishop said.
Military Ordinariate of the Philippines Bishop Leopoldo Tumulak said the Aquino administration should instead act on Mariano’s concerns.
He said ‘mutual listening’ must also be established between the Aquino administration and Mariano who was caught on video saying apparently seditious statements against the government.
“He should be listened to… I don’t know if he has other concerns that were not addressed,†Tumulak said over Manila archdiocese-run Radyo Veritas.
“I really hope that there’s mutual listening†he said. “And then we really hope for happy resolution of this case.â€
In the video which posted online in YouTube, Mariano was reading a prepared statement as he called on the public and his fellow soldiers to replace the current administration.
“It is the duty, it is the right of every Filipino, including soldiers, to replace the government. I repeat, replace the government,†Mariano said.
The Navy colonel, who officially retired last July 17, has been confined to barracks while undergoing investigation regarding his video clip.
Mariano’s retirement privileges were also put on hold and that he is being charged with violating 2 sections of Articles of War. [CBCPNews]
