NAGA City, July 18, 2014 — Devotion is waterproof. This is what seemed apparent when devotees and pilgrims gathered in droves July 16 to celebrate the feast of Our Lady of Carmel despite typhoon Glenda making landfall the day before.

Caceres Archbishop Rolando Tria Tirona, who celebrated the holy mass on the Lady’s feast day for the first time, applauded such a huge attendance at the Carmel of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, Pilgrim City.

The Carmelite Archbishop stressed focus on God as one of several exemplary qualities of the Blessed Virgin Mary worthy of emulation.

“…To be whole, Mary has placed God in the center of her life,” Tirona said.

According to him, she achieved this by developing a personal and intimate relationship with God, experiencing first-hand the love of God.

“Be focused on God. [Place Him in the] center of your lives,” Tirona encouraged the faithful.

About thirty priests also concelebrated the Eucharistic sacrifice at 5:15 p.m (Natalie Hazel Quimlat)
