MUNTINLUPA City, Oct. 26, 2014 — Youth ministry members and lay leaders from the Diocese of Cubao, together with some volunteers of the Philippine Jesuit Prison Service (PJPS) Foundation, Inc., shared their message of love and hope to inmates at the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) on Saturday, Oct. 25, 2014.

Calling the outreach “an encounter with Jesus”, Hearts of Jesus and Mary Parish parochial vicar Fr. Ronald Monis, or simply Fr. Jojo to the youth, led the group, which visited the Visitorless, Indigent, Sick and Old (VISOs) of Genuine Ilocano (GI) Brigade of the NBP Maximum Security Compound in Muntinlupa City.

Besides sharing their blessings with some of the inmates who had not been visited by their families for years, they also had the opportunity to visit the sick at Ward II of the NBP Hospital, and prayed at the Death Chamber for the seven people who died through lethal injection.

The outreach coincided with Prison Awareness Week which the Catholic Church celebrates every October. This year’s theme is “Ang Iyong Pagmamahal, Hatid ay Pag-asa.” (Madonna Escolano)
