MANILA, June 7, 2016— Philippine Church-based groups are joining with those around the world in marking the first anniversary of Pope Francis’ landmark encyclical, Laudato Si’.
It is a week-long and world-wide celebration led by the Global Catholic Climate Movement (GCCM) from June 12 to June 19.
The GCMM has encouraged parishes, schools and Church groups to undertake any activity, connected with Laudato Si, such as organizing a talk, celebrating a Mass, among others.
The target is 1,000 events and GCCM has set up a special website called www.laudatosiweek.org and has requested advocates to register any activity that they undertake.
As a follow up to its series of community conversations on Laudato Si, the GCCM-Pilipinas is organizing a Laudato Si Symposium at the UST Medicine Auditorium from 8am-11am on June 18.
The forum will include some updates from the recent Paris Convention and some examples of best practices on “caring for our common home” from other communities.
The speakers have not yet been named but they are expected to be those who participated in the COP-21 in Paris.
The event will be highlighted with a Eucharistic celebration and the formal launching of the GCCM-Pilipinas. (CBCPNews)
