PASIG City, Oct. 29, 2015 – Members of a university-based pro-chastity group is set to “overthrow” mistaken notions about love as popularized by Hollywood, with the “Real Love Revolution” event scheduled on Nov. 7, at the Ynares Sports Complex, Pasig City.
“Nowadays, a lot of pressing issues arise from people’s failure to recognize the virtue of love and chastity. And the worst part is, there can be real damaging effects on a lot of aspects when people get hurt because of this kind of love. They end up going through a lot of unnecessary drama that they otherwise wouldn’t have to if they pursued the virtuous kind of love,” shared Jeremy Orlina, senior marketing officer of CATALYST, the Leadership, Advocacy, and Outreach organization of University of Asia and the Pacific (UA&P), in an interview.
Through the event, she said they hope to create a “drastic shift” in people’s perception of what makes real love real, encouraging them to pursue a pure and genuine relationship.
Orlina pointed out real love means giving what is best for the beloved.
“There exists a popular notion that love is grounded on the intensity of the person’s feelings for another, but real love looks beyond that. It is an act of self-giving,” she explained.
Orlina added CATALYST is determined to push through with this year’s Real Love Revolution given the various issues that affect the way people, especially the youth, view love and relationships.
She went on to bemoan that many today rush headlong into relationships, leading them to make decisions that tend to trivialize the importance of waiting.
Orlina also blamed pornography in particular and the media in general for distorted depictions of love and sexuality to which people are exposed.
“With all these issues, the value of chastity is dwindling in the eyes of the youth in the society, which is why we took on the challenge of holding another Real Love Revolution. Our main goal is to encourage people to learn and to put into practice what real and pure love is, in the truest sense of the word,” she said.
For the forthcoming conference, CATALYST has enlisted the help of renowned speakers Sarah Swafford of Emotional Virtue Ministries and Matt Fradd of The Porn Effect.
“One talk will focus on ‘Emotional Virtue for a Drama-Free Life’ and it will point out how relationships are constantly under attack, whether from the media or the environment around them. Our speakers will target this battle within by setting forth a vision for virtue, particularly one that focuses on beginning with the end in mind and building what will last,” Orlina said.
According to her, a talk on “The Love That Satisfies” will challenge the audience to open their minds and hearts, and to embrace the Church’s teachings on human sexuality.
Over 31K lives
“Our speakers will propose that the virtue of chastity is for those who desire joy and that any sexual relationship without this virtue will always disappoint,” she added.
Orlina boasted that for the past three years, Real Love Revolution has inspired over 31,000 lives, and prays that they will continue to inspire more people.
Real Love Revolution 2015 is slated to have three sessions: 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., and 7 p.m. to 10 p.m..
