MANILA, Sept. 18, 2013—In response to the nationwide call for the abolition of the pork barrel system, concerned citizens, civil society organizations, business groups and individuals in Cebu City have joined forces to form the Cebu Coalition Against the Pork Barrel System.
According to their convenors, the coalition is a result of the united stand of several multi-sectoral groups condemning corruption, calling for the scrapping of the Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) and for restoring management of public funds for the common good.
The coalition’s first activity is a half-day interfaith prayer and anti-pork program on September 29, open to all concerned citizens, civil society organizations, business groups, religious, and individuals in Cebu.
On the same day, a Mass and a signature campaign for a unity statement against corruption will be held in Fuente Osmeña Circle.
Convenors are also planning future consultation meetings on concrete alternatives upon the abolition of the pork barrel system.
Those interested to participate in the event and possible membership in the coalition, may contact the secretariat at (032) 406-8079 or 0922-4953975 or email firstname.lastname@example.org. (Jandel Posion)
