CEBU City, July 6, 2014—Knowing the Philippines won’t stand a chance militarily should a war with China break out, a prelate in Central Philippines sees prayer to Mama Mary and interior conversion as defensive weapons up the Filipino sleeve.
“The first and only line of defense the Philippines has is the mantle of protection by the Blessed Virgin Mary,” said Cebú Archbishop Emeritus Ricardo J. Cardinal Vidal.
In an open letter signed by the prelate June 19, Vidal calls on all Filipino Catholics to ask for the intercession of the Blessed Virgin in averting hostilities between the Philippines and the emerging “super power”.
To intensify efforts in this campaign, the prelate organized a prayer crusade with Nieves Puyod, Marinel Magalona, and Jocelyn Misanes who will be providing supplies of “Mary, Mediatrix of All-Grace” literature, prayer cards, and other printed materials to encourage the various dioceses of the country to take part.
Echoing Our Lady of Fátima’s revelation that “war is a punishment” for sin, Vidal stated that “our offenses against God and His commandments” can make of China the “instrument of Divine justice”.
He said Filipinos’ sins of pornography and obscenity; drug and substance abuse; greed manifest in graft and corruption reaching levels of plunder; contraception and birth control institutionalized by the reproductive health law; immodest fashion; live-in conjugal arrangements; homosexual unions, and others will be punished through the aggressive expansionism of China.
Vidal is scheduled to celebrate mass at the Carmelite Monastery in Lipa City, Batangas on September 12, during which, he said, he will “place the safety of each and every Filipino in the hands of Mary, Mediatrix of All-Grace”.
Lipa Carmel is where the Blessed Virgin, who introduced herself as the Mediatrix of All-Grace, appeared to postulant Teresing L. Castillo in the 1940s.
In the apparition of October 17, 1948, the Mediatrix told Castillo, “Pray hard for [sic] China’s dream to invade the whole world. The Philippines is one of its favorites. Money is the evil force that will lead the people of the world to destruction.”
To counter this, Our Lady recommended, “Prayers, sacrifices, self-denials, and the daily recitation of the rosary will soften the heart of my Son as I said before.
The whole text of the prayer is as follows:
Most Blessed Virgin Mary, amidst the crisis brought about by the territorial claims of China, we come to your presence seeking your queenly protection and motherly help.
We pray for peace and the safety of the Philippines as we keep in mind the spiritual welfare of those who advance their territorial claims to the detriment of the security of our country.
May the love of your Maternal Heart attract the Chinese people to your Son, Jesus. May your Immaculate Heart be center from which the rays of the light and love of the Sacred Heart will radiate forth throughout China, becoming for them the unquenchable fountain from which the living water of the Divine Mercy will flow.
Through your intercession, may the Lord grace Chinese people with faith, hope, and love, that by your maternal mediation of grace, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit will be worshipped in that vast expanse of land. [Adapted from a message of Jesus to Sister Lúcia of Fátima as documented in a letter of the seer to the bishop of Gurza, May 27, 1943.]
Remember, O most gracious Virgin, that the Philippines is your “Pueblo Amante de María”, and that we belong to you absolutely, totally, always, and forever.
We are all yours and all that we have is yours, O most loving Jesus through Mary, Mediatrix of All-Grace.
