Bishop San Diego, 79, dies of cardiac arrest

PASIG CITY, August 26, 2015—The first bishop of Pasig, Bishop-Emeritus Francisco C. San Diego, passed away in his sleep early this morning.

Bishop Mylo Hubert Vergara confirmed that Bishop-Emeritus San Diego died at Cardinal Santos Memorial Hospital before dawn today.

“The cause of death of Bp. San Diego at 4:49 a.m. today is cardiac arrest while on his sleep,” Vergara told the CBCP News.

“He died at the Cardinal Santos Hospital at the age of 79. He was born on October 10, 1935,” Vergara added.

The Diocese of Pasig is still finalizing the details of the public viewing of Bishop San Diego’s remains and the interment.

San Diego was installed as first Bishop of Pasig on August 21, 2003. After serving the Diocese of Pasig for more than seven years, he retired on December 21, 2010 at the age of 75.

A native of Obando, Bulacan, San Diego was ordained a priest on December 21, 1963 in Manila. San Diego first served as Coadjutor Vicar Apostolic of Palawan from 1983 to 1987 and as Vicar Apostolic of Palawan from 1987 to 1995.

San Diego became the Bishop of San Pablo from 1995 to 2003 before serving as the first Bishop of the Diocese of Pasig. (CBCPNews)
