MANILA, May 14, 2015— A Catholic bishop has expressed his concern for the victims of recent fire at a warehouse in Valenzuela City that left dozens of people dead.

“We condole with the families and pray for the eternal repose of the victims,” Malolos Bishop Jose Oliveros said.

“If it is any consolation, one of our priests was there to assist the families of the victims and to bless their dead,” he said.

At least 72 people were confirmed dead and some others are still missing when a fire broke out at a footwear factory on Wednesday.

Local authorities have vowed a thorough investigation about the cause of the fire, amid workers’ claims of poor fire safety standards.

“It was a tragedy that could had been prevented if proper measures were done for the safety of the workers if proper fire escapes were installed and were they ever inspected,” Oliveros said. (R. Lagarde/CBCPNews)
