NAGA City, July 9, 2015 – The Bikol Association of Catholic Schools (BACS) will hold its 2015 Annual Regional Assembly in Naga City this Friday, July 10, the first in five years.
The gathering shall take place at the San Francisco Church and at the Crown Hotel, both located in the city’s downtown. For the past five years, the regional assembly has always been held in Legaspi.
This year, Caceres and Libmanan (CEACAL) will host the assembly themed “Set forth in faith with new eyes on the many faces of the Poor”.
Assistance to poor schools
Guests include Fr. Enrico Gonzales O.P., keynote speaker; Dr. Cynthia Arcadio, Head of the TWG of the Philippine Catholic School Standards (PCSS) Project; Rene San Andres (CEAP Executive Director); Jose Allan Arellano (Membership & Communications Officer); and Ron Ico (Retirement Officer). The school heads, administrators, and faculty of the member schools are expected to attend.
Besides being the annual assembly of the member schools, it is also a preparation for the CEAP National Convention sometime in September and October of 2015.
In the past, the BACS Meet was an event for the alumni of member schools; an opportunity for students and educators to come together for sports, academic, and cultural events.
Recently, BACS, alongside CEAP, has been actively providing teacher trainings, preparations for K to 12 and assistance to poor schools, typhoon and earthquake-stricken communities.
Quality Catholic education
The association revived the BACS Meet and initiated the BACS Youth Camp. Recent ones have been held in Albay, Masbate, and Sorsogon. BACS also hopes to revive the Dolot ki Ina, a gathering of students during the September festivities of the feast day of Our Lady of Peñafrancia.
Comprising some 50 schools, BACS is composed of the Catholic Educational Associations of the different dioceses and archdiocese in the Bicol region namely: Caceres and Libmanan (CEACAL), Legaspi (CEAL), Virac (CEAV), Sorsogon (CEAS), and Masbate (MACEA). As such it is the regional arm of the Catholic Educational Association of the Philippines (CEAP).
The officers of BACS are as follows: Fr. Rex Andrew Alarcon (President); Fr. Odine Areola (Vice President); Fr. Crispin Cordero (Secretary); Fr. Rolando Panesa (Treasurer); Fr. Ernie Arceo (Auditor).
