MANILA, Jan. 22, 2013— Catholic bishops in Bicol region will issue a manifesto calling for the rejection of the controversial Reproductive Health Law.
Sorsogon Bishop Arturo Bastes said it would be a ‘special statement’ denouncing the RH law, which was secretly signed by President Benigno Aquino III last December.
“We are all against the RH Law. It is immoral. We Bicol bishops have a special statement against that. RH law is a sham, a mockery,” Bastes told Manila archdiocese-run Radio Veritas.
Last week, Catholic lay organizations in the Diocese of Bacolod launched an anti-RH bill manifesto being circulated throughout the province for signatures.
They also vowed to campaign against Negros representatives who voted for the passage of the RH bill.
Bishop Bastes also said that his diocese is now preparing for the launching of the “Red Ribbon” campaign, the Church’s rallying symbol in the battle against the RH law.
Aside from that, the diocese is also set to release guidelines for voters, stressing their position on family and life issues.
The church official said that family and life would be one of the main issues to be considered in crafting the guidelines. (CBCPNews)
